Placement Advisor Spotlight: Mary Anne Myers

Tell us about yourself.

I have had the pleasure of working as a Placement Advisor with Humber since 2007. After graduating with a Master of Arts from the University of Guelph, I worked in Admissions at a private college, followed by Recruitment at an agency in Etobicoke. My first roles at Humber were as an Employer Consultant with Humber’s Centre for Internationally Trained Professionals and an Employment Specialist with the Humber Rexdale Employment Resource Centre. Becoming a Placement Advisor has allowed me to do what I enjoy; work closely with students and our industry partners.

In light of the pandemic's impact and the challenges it has presented, what valuable advice would you offer to a prospective graduate seeking full-time employment?

While the pandemic has caused some disruptions in employment, many industries have continued to thrive, and even more are starting to rebuild. Graduates can also take pride in knowing that they have developed marketable skills during the pandemic while learning online. These include resilience, time management, working independently, and technical skills such as video conferencing and online communication.

The WIL Team supports students and employer partners in their Work-Integrated Learning journey. Committed, dedicated and professional, they are key contributors to Humber’s Strategic Plan, preparing career-ready citizens and establishing strong, sustainable collaborations with industry, community, international and alumni partners.
