WORKSHOP IDI 207Human Rights and International Development

Explore the basic tenets of Human Rights Law and how it relates to international development issues. This five-day workshop will provide a background as to how human rights were developed on a global and Canadian scale and relate this to international development and global justice. Topics such as: international law, human rights law, the responsibility to protect, the Geneva Conventions, as well as the various codes of conduct followed by international development professionals will be discussed and analyzed in detail. Participants will gain an understanding of the strengths and limitations of international laws with respect to human rights and international development.

This workshop will be of interest to those planning on working in international development at the field or headquarters level and those who have an interest in human rights in general.

This is an elective course in the International Development Management Studies Certificate.
