Learn to use Excel's four Cell Referencing Methods to create "unbreakable worksheet formulas". Learn to use key Functions from Excel's built-in Function Categories. Create User Defined Functions (UDFs), and learn VBA code differences between Macros and UDFs. Learn to protect and share VBA Procedures among users/computers.

Connected Workshop Series

The prerequisite for this workshop is BISM 402. This workshop is part 3 of a three part workshop series that works towards an increased understanding of Data Input, Data Analysis, as well as Formulas and Functions to facilitate better workplace applications.

1. Formula and Function Overview

  • Formulas and Functions in Excel’s Worksheet Environment
  • Formulas and Functions in Excel’s VBA Environment

2. User Defined Functions (UDFs)

  • User Defined “Function” (UDF) Procedures versus “Sub” (Macro) Procedures
  • Managing UDF Argument Name Length and General Help Description

3. Boolean Data plus Logical and Information Functions

  • Create/Convert Boolean Data; Detect Data Types with “IS” Functions
  • Logical Functions, Custom Data Validations plus Create UDFs

4. Text Manipulation, Date Calculations and Formating Functions

  • Text Manipulation Functions and Create a UDF
  • “Custom” Date Formats, TEXT Conversion and Create a UDF

5. Database Calculations With and Without Filtering

  • Database Calculations that Respond to Filter Criteria (SUBTOTAL)
  • Database Calculations that Respond to Query Criteria (DSUM, DAVERAGE, etc.)

6. Database Lookups with Information and Reference Functions

  • Perform a VLOOKUP that is “Unbreakable”
  • Replace a VLOOKUP by Creating a UDF

A Certificate of Recognition will be given to students who attend all three workshops.
