The Business of Play

You might know the game of golf, but do you know the business of golf? Humber’s Professional Golf Management diploma program helps you improve your acumen in the clubhouse and beyond. Our program covers everything from sport psychology and turf management to marketing to finance. Golf is one of the fastest growing sports industries worldwide. With more than 2,500 facilities in Canada, it’s one of the fastest growing Canadian industries of any kind. So, there’s a need for talented professional golf managers who know the game on and off the course. Golf facilities and sports apparel companies require business-minded golfers with a deep understanding of golf culture who can manage courses, pro shops, tournaments, special events, and day-to-day business operations. Your tasks could range from teaching lessons to developing marketing strategies for golf equipment and apparel. The Professional Golf Management diploma program helps you step up to the challenge.

Work Placement

Students complete two paid internships combining classroom study with practical work experience. Each lasts eight to 24 weeks and takes place from April to October, following semester two and semester four. Students will be required to record the completion of specified golf industry tasks, duties and skills in an internship journal.

Students are responsible for finding their own placement; however, Humber is actively involved in the golf industry and hosts a job fair each December to assist students in securing their placement.

Graduates of Humber’s Professional Golf Management program leave equipped with a strong business understanding, and possibly a stronger golf swing.

  • Head/Associate Professional in any PGA of Canada facility
  • Pro Shop Manager

  • Over 800 golf facilities in Ontario employ the majority of graduates

Your Future Study Options

Hone Personal and Business Skills

Through the first program of its kind eligible for PGA of Canada certification, you’ll apply business administration to golf. It’s a chance to earn real-world experience while honing personal skills. Taught by industry professionals, you’ll experience:

  • Our $100,000 on-campus golf lab/player development program which prepares students for the PGA of Canada’s Playing Ability Test (PAT)
  • Off-season privileges at BraeBen Golf Club
  • Guest lectures, job fairs, and field trips to golf facilities

Tradition of Excellence

Humber has been well represented at the World University Golf Championships and Humber head coach Ray Chateau—who has represented his country several times—has served as Team Canada head coach more than once.
