Humber’s two-year Paralegal Education diploma program gives students the skills and knowledge to function as a licensed paralegal. Graduates of accredited paralegal education programs will be eligible to apply to write the Paralegal Licensing Examination that, in addition to other requirements, must be completed to qualify for a licence to practise as a paralegal in Ontario. Becoming a licensed paralegal, in keeping with the Law Society Act, allows you to offer certain fee-based legal services directly to clients without needing a lawyer’s supervision. Besides qualifying you for self-employment a paralegal licence also allows you to pursue a career as a salaried employee in legal institutions. The diploma program educates you in small business operation and ethics while also including theoretical concepts and providing opportunities for the practical application of skills.
This program, accredited by the Law Society of Upper Canada (LSUC), educates you in the Canadian and Ontario legal systems. You’ll learn court procedures, taught by experienced lawyers and current Small Claims Court deputy judges.
