A 150-hour (minimum) work placement gives students valuable practical industry experience and prepares them for immediate employment. Students find their own placement under the guidance of the program co-ordinator, and take career management workshops to develop effective job search skills.
A career in financial services could include assisting clients in obtaining loans or mortgages; advising clients on investments, retirement planning or risk management; or analyzing clients’ financial situations and needs and helping them develop plans to reach their goals. The work is much more than creating a portfolio for your clients; it’s about creating relationships, because in the financial world products might only have slight differences. Success therefore depends on building trust and understanding individual client needs. That’s why Humber’s courses cover everything from interpersonal communication to credit to financial planning. In the second year the program features a paid work placement that gives students real-world experience practicing their skills.

With the CSC and PFPC successfully completed, students can challenge the exam to acquire the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation of the Financial Planners Standards Council.
