Acquire a marketable understanding of accounting procedures and theory. Hands-on computer skills and an 84-hour work placement give students of Humber’s two-year Accounting diploma program real work experience before graduation. Businesses increasingly depend on accounting expertise, for accountants help determine if an idea is financially viable, sufficient capital is available, a product is cost-effective, or if a distribution process has financial merit. Because the practice of accounting changes with the business environment and tax laws, accountants can look forward to continued learning and skill development to meet the evolving needs of clients.
A solid foundation in accounting procedures and theory, plus an 84-hour work placement gives students of the 2-Year Accounting Diploma program the opportunity to start their career quickly. Students with a 70% average or higher may choose to continue with the co-op or three-year program. The CGA of Ontario requires graduates of Humber's three-year program to enrol in additional CGA-specific courses as part of their membership requirements. CGA may change their requirements at any time. Applicants and students should review the CGA requirements and standards carefully to ensure a full understanding of them. Students with similar long-term career goals but who intend to find a job immediately may want to do the two-year diploma program and continue their studies at a later date.
Although the two-year and three-year Accounting programs have a common first year, students who wish to work towards a degree, could consider enrolling directly into the two-year diploma program. Credits obtained in this diploma program could be transferred straight into year two of Humber’s 4-Year Bachelor of Commerce - Accounting program. This pathway helps students transfer into the degree program as quickly as possible.
