Following a theoretical exploration of underlying concepts and the development of applied skills, the Bachelor of Commerce — Accounting degree helps you develop an understanding of industry disciplines, plus business functions and their relationships.
The program emphasizes a fundamental understanding of business
disciplines to give students a sound grasp of business functions and
their relationships. Areas of study include: marketing, law, economics,
operations management, ethics, human resources management,
organizational behaviour, financial accounting, management accounting,
financial management, taxation, auditing, strategic management,
statistics, and quantitative analysis. This program emphasizes critical
thinking, analytical skills, communications, and leadership.
This program fully integrates business fundamentals into the curriculum. It lets you build a common business platform while deepening professional enrichment via arts and humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences courses.
Courses in the first two years of all specialized business degree programs are built on a common platform of solid business education - marketing, economics, accounting and law. In years three and four, you'll choose the specialty that will launch your career.

Students will participate in one mandatory paid work term of 14 weeks of professional experience. Students will select from a wide variety of opportunities in public accounting firms, government offices, not-for-profit organizations, major corporations, small businesses, and financial institutions. Students can work for employers in accounting practices, in industry (insurance, banks, manufacturing or service industries), non-profit organizations or for all levels of government. These employers can range from large multinationals to small proprietorships.
As the regulatory environment and accounting standards change, the accounting profession changes to keep pace. Accounting professionals can expect continued learning and to look forward to developing skills to meet the varying needs of their clients. Organizations in business and other sectors increasingly rely on accounting professionals for input on the strategic direction and operational choices of an enterprise.

Humber's Bachelor of Commerce — Accounting meets the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO) course requirements. As well, Humber's Bachelor of Commerce — Accounting qualifies graduates to write the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) of Ontario entrance examination. The Certified General Accountants (CGA) of Ontario requires graduates of Humber's Bachelor of Commerce — Accounting to enrol in additional CGA-specific courses as part of their membership requirements. All professional accounting associations are independent of Humber Institute, all have additional requirements for membership beyond holding a degree, and all may change their requirements at any time. Applicants and students are advised to review each of the accounting associations' requirements and standards carefully in order to ensure a full and complete understanding of current requirements.
