Understand the issues and identify the activities associated with archival records and archival institutions. You will explore the main functional areas, such as acquisition, appraisal, arrangement, description, conservation and public service, within the context of a modern archive. Emphasis will be placed on the particular concerns of institutional archives and organizational records, although attention will also be paid to private papers. The primary focus is on textual or traditional paper archives, in order to emphasize the main archival principles and practices. However, the various other media formats found in most archives will be identified.
