Being someone that others can depend on has its rewards. Humber’s two-semester Law Firm Profile certificate program prepares you to help lawyers in their practices—at law firms, government agencies, or private organizations. While learning to successfully support the demands of a law firm, you’ll also benefit from a paid work placement at a prestigious Toronto law firm with national or international reach. Through the program you’ll explore:
Humber’s educational partnership with prominent national and international law firms in Toronto adds real world depth to the program. The firms provide on-site opportunities where you can apply your new knowledge, skills, and behaviours during work placement. They also facilitate learning by offering guest speakers, panel discussions, and field trips.
Lawyers rely on the support of legal assistants to ensure their clients get the representation they need and deserve. From researching to preparing documents, legal assistants play a significant role. In one year you will learn the theory and procedures associated with real estate, litigation, and corporate law. You will also get the opportunity to work in a simulated legal environment where you will use specialized legal application software, draft and prepare legal documents, handle clients’ files, while managing time limitations.

Utilize your new knowledge, skills and behaviours through a seven-week paid work placement during the second semester. These placements, arranged by the school at prominent national and international law firms in Toronto, complement the practical courses at Humber and constitute an integral part of your learning.
Whether it’s in a firm or a corporate in-house legal department, as a legal assistant your day might include creating and maintaining client records, drafting documents, handling daily administrative tasks, and generally acting as a lawyer’s most important administrative assistant. You could be involved in a divorce negotiation, a bail hearing, the sale of a house, or a criminal case. The legal profession offers a unique mix of drama and regulation that guarantees a career of new challenges and learning.
You also know that being competitive after graduation requires more than an in-class education. You’ll need real-world work experience, too. Graduates get both in Humber’s certificate program, entering the work world with the edge they need to succeed. We enable your career preparedness via a paid work placement as part of the second semester curriculum. Placements are at prominent national and international law firms located in Toronto.
