The Degree, the Diploma
and the Dynamic Duo

Star players find success at Humber
on the field and in the classroom.

Friends Joanna Alexopulos and Andrew DaSilva share the love of soccer. Star players, they each have found success at Humber, both on the field and in the classroom.

Alexopulos began her postsecondary studies with an athletic scholarship from the University of Memphis. However, the demands of “soccer 24-7” resulted in Alexopulos losing her passion for the game. A budding fashionista, she returned home after one year and, upon a friend’s recommendation, enrolled in Humber College’s two-year Fashion Arts diploma program. Now, two years later, Alexopulos is on a pathway to success. She completed her diploma and has transferred her credits to Humber’s new four-year Bachelor of Applied Business - Fashion Management degree program. “The Fashion Arts program was so much more than theory and gave me the motivation to continue to pursue my degree,” she says.

DaSilva came to Humber via York University, having been recruited for their soccer team. But, as time went on, he began looking for a new direction on and off the field. Listening to Alexopulos and her enthusiasm for Humber, DaSilva enrolled in Humber’s two-year Recreation and Leisure Services diploma program and earned a spot as a striker on the men's soccer team. “This is the perfect program for people passionate about sports,” says DaSilva. “I especially like that the teachers and coaches are enthusiastic and build relationships with the students.”

Both Alexopulos and DaSilva are enjoying academic, athletic and personal success at Humber. They are excelling in their respective programs and both were named Canadian Colleges Athletic Association 2008 All-Canadians. To top it off, they began dating last year and haven't stopped smiling since.
