Open House

Open Houses are a great way to meet
faculty, get to know us and see how
accessible and friendly we are.

You've browsed the websites, you've looked at the flyers, you've just received the course calendars in the mail...and you've still got questions. You’re not alone. Choosing the right education is a big decision and Humber's Business School is here to help.

Each spring and fall, the Business School opens its doors to prospective students and their families so they can meet faculty, administrators and current students. It’s a great way to experience the school and see first hand what Humber has to offer.

Planning to attend the Open House is easy. Start with our online tool to find your program and view your schedule. Your day will include times for residence tours, program, financial aid, student services and disability services information sessions and more.  Plus, you can get customized directions from your starting point and find parking and campus maps, too.

Peter Madott is an Associate Dean in the Business School and has been participating in the Open Houses for the past six years. According to Peter, the Open Houses are a great opportunity for prospective students and their families to "come out and meet us and ask anything they want about our programs."

Avril Carnovale agrees. As a professor and former Program Coordinator, she says that the Open Houses are "a great way to meet faculty and get to know us, and see how accessible and friendly we are." Avril also says that the Open Houses are great ways for the Business School to show off the Lakeshore Campus. According to Avril, "the Business School Open Houses are an opportunity to really sell the Lakeshore campus with all its old buildings, leafy trees, and views of Lake Ontario."

Obviously, making faculty and administration available to meet prospective students and their families is an important part of the Open House experience. But what else can you expect from a visit? At last year's Lakeshore Campus Open House, faculty provided forty-five minute presentations on popular programs like Business Administration, Paralegal Studies, and Professional Golf Management.

Program Coordinator Guillermo Acosta says students can expect a similar experience at the Business School's North Campus. Last spring Guillermo says that faculty "gave presentations on all the key programs and activities we offer. These presentations are really beneficial for students and parents because it gives them a sense of the kind of things students will be doing inside and outside of their classrooms."

Prospective students and their families can also arrange to see the rest of the Lakeshore and North Campuses while visiting one of the Open Houses. Guided tours explore the library, the residences, physical fitness facilities, and the various food services available on campus.

Still not sure if you should attend? Just read a letter one parent of a Humber student wrote after attending a Spring Open House:

Hello,
My family and I were at your Open House at the North Campus this past Saturday and we had a wonderful time. My daughter has confirmed that she is coming to Humber in September and after seeing the campus we know it is the place for her. We have been to a few other Open Houses (both colleges and universities) and none compared to yours. All of our questions were answered and everything was understandable. I liked the fact that you had a schedule - we didn't miss a thing. The announcements and reminders were a bonus touch (we missed the only campus tour at another college's Open House last fall because it was so chaotic). Everyone at Humber made us feel at ease and took the time to answer all of our questions. My daughter had the opportunity to speak to some of your student workers that were in her program - she was so excited to hear that they are enjoying Humber. It's really nice to see that you are looking out for the future adults of this world and I can't thank you enough.

Please let your staff know that we enjoyed ourselves and that they should keep up the great work. Our daughter can't wait to start school in September.

Visit the next Business School Open House and we're sure that you won't be able to wait until school starts either!

Humber's next Open House is scheduled to take place at both the North and Lakeshore Campuses on April 25, 2009 from 10am - 2pm.
