Ray Chateau is the Program Coordinator of the Professional Golf Management (PGM) program at Humber.
With a Masters degree in Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business at York University, Ray is widely considered a major player in the field of golf education. He is responsible for the redevelopment and advancement of the PGM program at Humber and has given a new meaning to the term educated golf professional in Canada.
Ray came to Humber to redefine what it means to be a golf professional in Canada. His goal was to build the number one golf program in the country, something he has achieved by combining unique teaching methods, guest speakers, job fairs, field trips, and by building a state-of-the-art golf swing lab, where students learn to analyze every dimension of the game using the latest technology and equipment.
As the PGM Program Coordinator, Ray not only leads the program but he also teaches several courses within it, such as Organizational Management and Business Policy in Golf Operations. Primarily, though, Ray acts as the liaison between the classroom and the golf industry, linking students with employment upon their successful completion of the program. He spearheaded the creation of the Humber PGM Job Fair, where students are afforded the opportunity to meet with leaders from the golf industry for seasonal and permanent employment opportunities.
Ray has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to the program and the field of education with a number of awards. In 2007, he was named one of only 100 recipients of the Province of Ontario’s Leadership in Faculty Teaching (LIFT) award. The award recognizes and encourages teaching excellence at Ontario's colleges and universities. In 2006, he received Humber College’s Distinguished Faculty Award and the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development Excellence Award from The University of Texas at Austin.
Beyond the program, Ray has coached the Humber College Hawks Varsity Golf team since 2001, capturing 10 National Championships during that time span. He has also represented Canada as the Head Coach of Team Canada at the 2004, 2006 and 2007 World University Championships.
