Lorraine teaches makeup in the Fashion Arts Diploma program. Her tricks of the trade have been acquired through her nearly 25 years as a makeup artist in film, television, and print, including her current movie, Jumper, with Samuel L. Jackson. Lorraine currently works full-time as head of the makeup department for CTV’s Business News Network (BNN). Throughout her career, she has worked at just about every television station in Toronto as a freelance makeup artist. Lorraine has worked on many feature films; she is a member of IATSE (the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists, and Allied Crafts).
Lorraine started teaching at Humber College when she wanted a new challenge in her career; she believes the world needs more good artists. The makeup business is very personal, so Lorraine encourages her students to be open and comfortable with each other, to help prepare them for the working world. Lorraine’s classrooms are full of positive energy, because, she says, “when you’re happy, you learn more.” A guest once described her class as “keen and energetic”, and that’s the way Lorraine likes it. Lorraine describes Humber students as “wonderful. They want to be there and they want to learn.”
As if her life isn’t exciting enough already, Lorraine loves to travel; last year’s trips included a cruise to the Carribean, a trip to Mexico, and her favourite: a trip to Egypt. She also loves the outdoors, hiking, swimming, and jogging.
